Background
Derbyshire Dale Properties, a holiday letting agency based in Derbyshire, approached Rohan at ITC Solar Renewables with a request to generate free electricity for three holiday lets located in Matlock, Derbyshire. These holiday lets, set in a picturesque and historical conservation area, presented unique challenges in terms of aesthetics and the need for sustainable energy solutions. Derbyshire Dale Properties wanted to enhance the energy efficiency of their properties while maintaining the historical integrity of the area.
Customer Requirements
The primary requirements for this project were:
- Solar Panel Installation on a Northeast (NE) Facing Roof: The holiday lets had roofs oriented towards the northeast, which is not an optimal direction for solar energy production.
- Aesthetic Integration in a Conservation Area: As the properties were located in a conservation area, Derbyshire Dale Properties required the installation of all-black, integrated solar panels that would blend seamlessly into the roofs without disrupting the architectural integrity or historical aesthetics of the area.
- High-Yield and Long-Warranty Panels: The panels needed to have a high energy yield and come with a robust warranty to ensure long-term reliability and return on investment.
- Battery Storage for Energy Management: Derbyshire Dale Properties requested the installation of a battery storage system to store excess energy generated on days when the holiday lets were not occupied. This energy could then be used when the properties were in use or fed back into the grid to generate additional income.
